June 16, 2000 Governor Bush signed into law an amendment to
the helmet laws of Florida allowing persons 21 years of age or older to ride
a motorcycle without a helmet if they have at least $10,000. of medical coverage
in the case of a motorcycle accident. We now have this freedom of choice for
the first time in several decades! The bill that the Governor signed was drafted
by ABATE of Florida, Inc.
THINK YOU CAN'T MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
The September 1998 primary election for State Senator was won
by Burt Saunders by 34 votes over incumbent Ralph Livingston. There was no
democratic contender for this office making Burt Saunders the new Senator
for District 25. ABATE members who voted in this district ( which Caloosahatche
Chapter is in) number in the several hundred. Most of those members supported
Burt Saunders. Mr. Saunders went on to sponsor our bill and was instrumental
in getting it passed. Burt Saunders is very grateful to ABATE of Florida for
his getting elected and ABATE of Florida is grateful to Burt Saunders for
his support of our bill. Still think you can't make
a difference?
